LIVING HISTORY FARMS GALLERY - Click image to view

Living History Farms is a 550-acre open-air museum in Urbandale (a suburb of Des Moines), Iowa. The museum features several sites, each representing a different period of Iowa history. On-site interpreters in period dress demonstrate aspects of life in each period.

For the past few years world-class Des Moines camera store Christian Photo has sponsored "Photography Day at the Farms" along with Canon USA.  This year, Nikon joins the event, and we'll be offering free, 30-minute classroom sessions on photo topics (See more info here).  The public is invited to bring a camera to the farms (on what has so far each year been a gorgeous autumn day) to photograph this outstanding venue for landscape, architectural, and period portrait photography.  All photo skill levels are welcome!  Regular LHF gate admission applies, but there's no charge to participate in the Photography Day activities.  Each year several professional photographers from Central Iowa are stationed at various locations around the farms, demonstrating photographic techniques and answering questions to help participants improve their photography.

I have been pleased to have been involved as a member of the pro crew the past few years, helping growing photographers to make great images.  I'll be working this year's event - September 12, 2009.  More info will be available on the Living History Farms website as the date approaches.
